One of the main challenges in the European fusion roadmap is to design a heat and power exhaust system able to withstand the large loads expected in the divertor of a DEMO fusion power plant.
A specific project has been launched to investigate alternative power exhaust solutions for DEMO, aimed at the definition and the design of a Divertor Tokamak Test (DTT) facility.
The Interim Design Report, also known as "Green Book", is a relevant update of the "Blue Book".
International Workshop on Supercapacitors and Energy Storage 2018
"New roots for new plants"
After the successes in 2016 and 2017, a new Workshop on Supercapacitors and Energy Storage with new contents was hosted in Salerno on 31 May and 1 June 2018.
International Workshop on Supercapacitors and Energy Storage 2017
Supercapacitors: On the pulse of a revolution
After the success in May 2016, a new Workshop on Supercapacitors and Energy Storage with new contents was held in Valsamoggia, Bologna on May 23, 2017.
On Sunday, 2 October 2016, the switching network units (SNUs) for the central solenoid (CS) of JT-60SA were delivered to Japan.
The 4 CS SNUs were procured by ENEA for the tokamak JT-60SA that is under construction in Naka, Japan, in the framework of the "Broader Approach" agreement between Europe and Japan.
The SNU voyage was longer than expected from the port of La Spezia in Italy to the port of Yokohama in Japan.
The Cyclotron Auto-Resonance Maser (CARM) is a project for the development of a 250 GHz radiofrequency source for plasma fusion at the ENEA Frascati Research Center.
The motivation that suggested to undertake this project is the unavailability of electromagnetic sources that fully meet the demands of future heating, current drive, and diagnostics systems in the Electron Cyclotron range of frequency (ECRF).
An internation workshop on the CARM advancements was held in ENEA Frascati on 3-4 November 2016.

The 4 CS SNUs were successfully tested and are ready for delivery to Japan by September 2016.
From research through industrial applications up to nuclear fusion plants
The Workshop was successfully held in ENEA Frascati on 13 May 2016.
Supercapacitors (also known as ultracapacitors, electrochemical capacitors or double-layer capacitors) feature exceptional capacitance values (even hundreds or thousands of farads), several orders of magnitude higher than traditional devices. Supercapacitor technologies are relatively new on the market. The achievable performances are expected to be higher and higher at lower and lower costs.
All the power transformers sold in Europe must comply with the maximum losses fixed by the Regulation EU 548/2014 ("Ecodesign").
An additional stage with stricter minimum standards is planned for 2021.
The laboratories of the ENEA Research Center in Frascati can test transformer losses.

A specific project has been launched to investigate alternative power exhaust solutions for DEMO, aimed at the definition and the design of a Divertor Tokamak Test (DTT) facility.
The power supply and electrical systems of the DTT facility will be presented at the 29th Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT) in Prague.
The DTT proposal will be presented in the invited talk "Design and definition of a Divertor Tokamak Test facility".
