Title: Simulating relativistic plasmas in high energy astrophysics: the case of pulsar wind nebulae

Abstract: Pulsar wind nebulae are powered by the rotational energy lost by the central compact star, emanated in the form of an highly magnetized, relativistic and cold plasma. They are visible as bright non-thermal sources at a broad range of energies, from radio to gamma-rays, showing various morphologies and certain association with some of the most intriguing features observed in high energy astrophysics in the last years. Moreover pulsar wind nebulae are perfect places to look at for investigating extreme processes: the physics of relativistic plasmas, magnetic dissipation, particle acceleration in unfavourable environments, charge separated leakage of high energy particles. In this talk we will review state of the art relativistic MHD models of these fascinating systems.
