The research in nuclear systems for the production of electrical energy needs not to underestimate the nuclear fuel cycle question. An efficient, wise and modern management of both incoming and outgoing fluxes is fundamental for a sustainable development of the energy politic in the very next future, as well as a detailed isotopic characterization of the fuel storages.
The research activity in fuel cycle scenarios, therefore, is devoted to the study of the present reactors park and the simulation of several scenarios evolution for a concrete analysis of sustainable policies for nuclear energy.
The preface of such an investigation is devoted to the study of the present reactors park by different level regional points of view, from national (discriminating nations which already have nuclear reactors and want to keep a static presence rather than expanding or extinguishing their nuclear production capability, from nations which don't have a nuclear aid and want to go nuclear) to European and global. The capabilities of fuel production and reprocessing/storaging are as well taken into consideration for an efficient and cooperative collective management optimizing unused capabilities as shared resourches.
The focal point of the research becomes indeed the outlook of the next future scenario, by introducing in the actual reactors park the new technologies available at now or in a foreseeable future with reasonable criteria of economics as well as sustainability. The aim of such a regional investigation is the definition of an availability network, focalized upon distributed facilities and shared resources, which could give body to a scale economy for a true nuclear reinassance.
