TEXT COLLECTIONS


The project Nuzi_e-dub-šar analyzes a corpus extracted from Nuzi texts, by harmonizing text mining and network analysis and visualization.
The selected texts belongs to a scribal family composed by Šeršiia, his son Ḫupita and his grandson Muštešup. For the sake of a correct evaluation of the number of occurrences of any word within the texts - texts are divided into three collections, one for each writer :
- Šeršiia, (11 tablets)
- Ḫupita (2 tablets)
- Muštešup (5 tablets).

For this exploratory study a complex of e-tools has been employed on e-texts, transliterated from the best preserved tablets.
The aim is to put into light innovative and conservative stylistic elements in the redaction of texts through three generations.

Corpus Characteristics
They are all administrative texts.
With respect to general corpora, these texts shows peculiarities in the text mining phase, such as:
- lack of punctuation;
- space and carriage return are the only separators of graphic form;
- Personal names have been written in lower case;
- Sumerogrammes have been written in small caps;
- UNICODE characters have been replaced (see text encoding ).

Other characteristics of this corpus are:
- limited text length;
- high incidence/rate of personal name (Adopters, Adoptees, Witnesses, Judges, Witnesses);
- reduced lexical choice of verbs, due to the administrative nature of tablets.
