Da: Oggetto: Apertura CRESCO8 e futura dismissione di CRESCO6/GPFS // Opening of CRESCO8 and upcoming decommissioning of CRESCO6/GPFS Data: Mon Jul 28 10:07:40 CEST 2025 A: Gentili utenti, come annunciato, vi informiamo che il cluster CRESCO8 del centro ENEA di Portici è disponibile e operativo per l’utilizzo a tutti gli utenti a partire da oggi, 28/07/2025. Vi ricordiamo inoltre che sarà tenuto un seminario formativo all’utilizzo di CRESCO8 nella prima metà del mese di Settembre 2025 in data da stabilirsi. La migrazione dei file dell’area store di GPFS sul nuovo filesystem LUSTRE (lpor1) di CRESCO8 è stata completata con successo. Il filesystem GPFS sarà gestito fino alla data del 30 settembre 2025. Alla stessa data, si comunica che termineranno anche i servizi di assistenza e backup (area store di GPFS) relativi al cluster CRESCO6 di Portici. Il cluster CRESCO6 resterà comunque disponibile per l’utilizzo, anche se privo del supporto tecnico e dei servizi di backup attualmente attivi. Durante questa fase di coesistenza dei sue filesytem, fino al 30 Settembre 2025, sarà attivo una procedura di sincronizzazione notturna monodirezionale, da GPFS a LUSTRE, secondo il seguente schema: • I file creati su CRESCO6 (GPFS) vengono sincronizzati giornalmente (24:00) su CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) • I file creati su CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) non vengono copiati indietro su CRESCO6 (GPFS) • I file modificati su CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) non vengono modificati su CRESCO6 (GPFS) • I file modificati su CRESCO6 (GPFS) vengono modificati CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) • I file cancellati su CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) non vengono cancellati su CRESCO6 (GPFS) e quindi vengono ricreati su CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) alla successiva sincronizzazione • I file cancellati su CRESCO6 (GPFS) non vengono cancellati su CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) Sempre durante questa fase di transizione, non sarà attiva una procedura di backup dei dati su LUSTRE che sarà abilitata in futuro. Se ritenete opportuno, vi suggeriamo di provvedere autonomamente alla conservazione dei dati rilevanti fino all'integrazione del nuovo sistema di backup. We also remind you that a training seminar on the use of CRESCO8 will be held during the first half of September 2025, on a date to be determined. The migration of files from the GPFS store area to the new LUSTRE filesystem (lpor1) on CRESCO8 has been successfully completed. The GPFS filesystem will remain available until September 30th, 2025. On that date, support and backup services related to the GPFS store area on the CRESCO6 cluster in Portici will also be discontinued. The CRESCO6 cluster will remain accessible for use, although without technical support or active backup services. During this phase of coexistence between the two filesystems, until September 30th, 2025, a nightly one-way synchronization procedure will be in place from GPFS to LUSTRE, as described below: • Files created on CRESCO6 (GPFS) are synchronized daily (at 00:00) to CRESCO8 (LUSTRE). • Files created on CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) are not copied back to CRESCO6 (GPFS) • Files modified on CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) are not updated on CRESCO6 (GPFS) • Files modified on CRESCO6 (GPFS) are updated on CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) • Files deleted on CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) are not deleted on CRESCO6 (GPFS) and will therefore be recreated on CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) during the next synchronization • Files deleted on CRESCO6 (GPFS) are not deleted on CRESCO8 (LUSTRE) Please note that during this transition phase, no backup procedure will be active for data on LUSTRE; this will be enabled in the future. If you consider it appropriate, we recommend safeguarding your important data independently until the new backup system is fully integrated.
