Networking
Certain licenses allow for this package to be run over a network. To set up this package so that it runs over a network you need to take 3 steps:

Firstly you need to install all of the core content of this product onto the server
Secondly you need to direct each client to the location on the server where the content can be found and set up a program group/icon
Thirdly you need to make sure that each client machine is configured properly with the correct plugins, registry settings etc.

To do this take the following steps:

Stage 1 - before installing

a Decide where on the server you would like to install the Matrix product(s): <SERVERLOC>.

b Copy across all the whole contents of the CD ROM into <SERVERLOC> \ <FILES4THISPACKAGE>.

c You may wish to map a network drive if you want minimal installation - see instructions in stage 2.

Stage 2 - during installation

a From each client install each package by running <SERVERLOC>SETUP.EXE.

b Make sure you are not running any other applications.

c Enter the appropriate product key code when prompted. You can find the product key code on your CD ROM booklet.

d Read the license agreement and agree - note that you are responsible for policing the number of computers using this package - this is not automatic.

e Decide where you would like to install this package - note that if you are using a client with no hard disk then this location can be somewhere on the server although this location can be shared by several clients.

f You will be prompted to select a maximum or minimum installation:

Maximum: fast operation, large hard disk usage - this will install all text, media, animation and simulation files onto each client hard disk.

Minimum: minimal client hard disk usage, possibly slower operation depending on network configuration.

{Note for clients with no hard disks - the installation package should still be run as various plugins will need to be copied to users' virtual hard drives and registry settings will need to be added to users' configurations.}

If you have selected minimum:

To access resources on a server from a client you will need to install a mapped network drive:

A mapped network drive is one that has a drive letter (e.g. 'M:' ). A description of the actual location usually precedes the drive letter.

e.g. :      E: on 'central_server' (M:)

Running the product by exploring 'Network Neighbourhood' and navigating to the product will cause errors even though they are the correct files.

To map a drive open Windows Explorer and select TOOLS, MAP NETWORK DRIVE.
Select the mapped drive letter from the DRIVE list and the path to the drive that you wish to map from the PATH list.

Windows 2000 users please note that the 'My Network places' shortcuts are not mapped drives they are just shortcuts, only drives listed under 'My Computer' are mapped.

g When prompted chose the resource location. BROWSE to <SERVERLOC> \ <FILES4THISPACKAGE> on the mapped drive and press OK.

h When prompted choose to install the Adobe Acrobat reader if these are not already on your client.

Your client installation is now complete.

Stage 3

a On each client load this package by clicking on the icon you have just made. Run the systems tests to check that each client is configured correctly.

b Make sure user accounts on the client machine have read/write priveliges for the following registry keys
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\MATRIXMM
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\lSearch

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.c4ps
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lsrh
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lsrhfile
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\lsrh

If these registry keys cannot be found you may need to run the search first.

Upgrading from single user to network versions.
Note that if you are upgrading from a single user license to a 10 or site license then you will need to reinstall as license settings are altered in the installation process and can not be altered from within the package.
