After a short delay for loading Neuron should open in the space below...

As Neuron starts you should see an "Asymetrix" splash screen. When the application is loaded you should see a "Click Me" button and some text. You can click on the button to verify that Neuron is working.

If you see the Asymetrix splash screen but the application fails to load then see the section below for troubleshooting tips.

If the second message box advises you to select non-secure mode please read the instructions below.

Should Neuron fail to appear then you will need to install the Neuron plug-in.
Some browsers will automatically detect whether you have Neuron or not and will ask you if you wish to download Neuron if it is not already installed.

Required version.
Neuron version 6.5 is installed as part of the installation routine. If you failed to install Neuron or need to re-install Neuron please run NEURON65.EXE from the PLUGINS/NEURON directory on the CD ROM.

You can also download Neuron from the Asymetrix web site by clicking on the link below.

http://www.asymetrix.com/products/toolbook2/neuron

Neuron version 6.5 or later is required.
( Version 7.0 or later may inform you that the application was written in an earlier version, and ask if you wish to run the application. Select OK, all applications have been tested to ensure that they run in version 7.)
Earlier versions of Neuron will not run the applications correctly, and a later version of Neuron will need to be installed.

Checking and setting non-secure mode.
Many of the Neuron applications used on this site require access to resources on the local computer, such as circuit simulation files. In order for the applications to use these resources Neuron needs to be set to run in Non-Secure Mode.
To check if Neuron is already running in non-secure mode click the button on the application above. The second message will tell you what mode you are currently running in.
To set non-secure mode select 'Start', 'Programs' and then go to the program group labelled either 'ToolBookII Neuron' or 'Asymetrix Learning System, ToolBookII Neuron'. Select 'Non-Secure Mode'. The configuration program should then configure Neuron accordingly.

Troubleshooting.
If you install a new browser or browser version after installing Neuron you may need to re-install Neuron to ensure that Neuron is configured for the new browser.

Should the splash-screen appear, but not the application, and you are using Netscape Navigator please ensure you are connected via a mapped network drive. See the Networking page for more details.
