Welcome to Alberto Tofani home page

I am a researcher at ENEA (Italian National agency for new technologies, Energy and sustainable economic development) Research Centre "Casaccia". In particular, I am part of the UTMEA-CAL Laboratory that aims at designing and realizing advanced technological solutions in the field of modelling and simulation tools for supporting scientific research and industrial R&D.

My research work focus on the development of

  • distributed and federated simulation tools for Critical Infrastructure interdependencies analysis,
  • a new generation of decision support systems to support CIs operators and disaster managers in performing preparedness actions and to optimizing mitigation effects during crisis scenarios,
  • GIS based Critical Infrastructure vulnerability assessment methodologies.

In February 2007 I obtained the Ph.D. in Informatica ed Applicazioni (Informatics and Applications) at Universita' dell'Aquila (University of L'Aquila), supervised by Prof. Benedetto Intrigila and Prof. Stefania Costantini . The main objectives of my research work were the modelling, simulation and verification of some properties of complex systems in different application areas: myocardial physiology modelling, verification and automatic generation of complex control systems, co-verification of embedded systems.

In September 2002 I obtained the degree in Informatics with the maximum score "cum laude", at the Facolta' di Scienze MM. FF. NN. (Faculty of Sciences) of the University of L'Aquila. The thesis's title was "Modelli per la Simulazione di Sistemi Complessi" ("Models for the Simulation of Complex Systems"), and the relator was the Prof. Benedetto Intrigila.
