About Scipy

The SciPy Stack is a collection of open source software for scientific computing in Python, and particularly a specified set of core packages that includes:

  • Python, a general purpose programming language.
  • NumPy, the fundamental package for numerical computation.
  • The SciPy library, a collection of numerical algorithms and domain-specific toolboxes, including signal processing, optimization, statistics and much more.
  • Matplotlib, a mature and popular plotting package
  • pandas, providing high-performance, easy to use data structures.
  • SymPy, for symbolic mathematics and computer algebra.
  • IPython, a rich interactive interface, letting you quickly process data and test ideas.
  • nose, a framework for testing Python code.

The SciPy installation is based on Anaconda minimal package. Anaconda is a completely free Python distribution. It includes more than 400 of the most popular Python packages for science, math, engineering, and data analysis

Currently Python 2.7 and Python 3 environments are available.

In order to load Python 2.7 environment please type module load scipy


In order to load Python 3 environment please type module load scipy3


In order to load Python 3 environment optimized for Intel processors please type module load scipy3intel


The list of python modules available can be obtained by typing conda list after loading the appropriate module
