Welcome to CRESCO Virtual Lab IGNITOR
The Ignitor Experiments

A Virtual Laboratory is a place where new ideas and projects find the best route to innovative applications since academic and industrial activities can collaborate and exchange best practices.

The IGNITOR Laboratory use extensively the computational resources and the innovative on-line services of ENEA-GRID and particularly the high performance computing platform CRESCO.

Demonstration of fusion ignition is a major scientific and technical goal for contemporary physics. Until the fundamental physics issues of fusion burning have been identified and confirmed by experiment, the defining concepts for a fusion reactore will remain uncertain. An important value of a basic ignition experiment is that the ignition process will be similar for any magnetically confined, predominantly thermal plasma. In such an experiment, heating method and control strategies for ignition, burning and shutdown can also be established.
