The energy of the levels in a strong magnetic field for s=1/2 is :

W=W0 + d * ( Ml + 2 Ms ) + a * Ml Ms

where :

W0 = term value of the hypothetical center of gravity of the fine-structure doublet

d (cm-1)= 0.467 * B(tesla)

a = the constant of fine-structure

The magnetic field is said to be STRONG when the splitting of the energy levels is greater then the fine-structure splitting.
